Maryland, one of the 13 original states and the first American colony to establish religious freedom, is located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. It is bordered by Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Washington D.C., and West Virginia. During its history, it contained the well-known Mason-Dixon line border and was the 7th state to ratify the U.S. constitution.
