Best Steakhouses in Reston, VA for Date Night

Steak dinner with red wine and candlelight on a restaurant patio.

Quick Answer: Where to Book a Steak Dinner for Two in Reston

Reston has something most suburbs do not: a genuine steakhouse row you can walk. Three of the four serious steak rooms in town sit within a few minutes of each other in Reston Town Center, and the fourth is one Silver Line stop east at Reston Station. If you are planning a date night here, the decision is less about driving somewhere special and more about which kind of evening you want once you park.

  • Morton's The Steakhouse — 11956 Market Street, Reston Town Center. The quiet, classic, dress-up option, with a separate bar for a drink first.
  • Ruth's Chris Steak House — 11990 Market Street, Reston Town Center. The newest of the group, opened in 2023, dinner only, with two private dining rooms.
  • Fogo de Chão — Democracy Drive, Reston Town Center. Brazilian churrasco carved tableside, with a mezzanine lounge for a nightcap.
  • Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse — 1902 Reston Metro Plaza, Reston Station. Steaks plus handmade pasta, white tablecloths and an open kitchen.

Every detail below was read from the restaurant's own website or a dated local news report in October 2026. Hours and offers change, so confirm the night you book.

Why Reston Town Center Works So Well for a Date

Most of Northern Virginia makes you choose between a good dinner and a good walk. Reston Town Center was designed the other way around. Market Street, Democracy Drive and Freedom Drive form a compact grid of shops, restaurants, a pavilion and a fountain plaza, wrapped by parking garages, so the evening can start with a stroll and end with one without moving the car.

That layout matters on a date for practical reasons. You can arrive early, have a drink at one place and eat at another. If the first-choice table is not ready, there are three other steak rooms and a dozen other restaurants within a few blocks. And if either of you is coming from work in the District, the Reston Town Center Metro station on the Silver Line puts the whole evening within reach without a car at all.

Reston Station, where Davio's sits, is the newer version of the same idea, built directly over Wiehle-Reston East. It is smaller and quieter than the Town Center today, with more arriving soon.

Choose the Steakhouse by the Kind of Evening You Want

The four rooms below are not a ranking. They are four different answers to the question of what the night is for.

The classic, white-tablecloth anniversary: Morton's

Morton's is the most traditional room on this list and it behaves like one. The restaurant describes a rich, timeless interior, an exhibition kitchen, a separate bar called Bar 12-21, private dining spaces and an outdoor patio, all in the middle of the Town Center and within walking distance of the Hyatt Regency Reston. The kitchen is built around prime-aged beef, fresh seafood and the big shared sides that define the American steakhouse format.

Two details make it a strong date choice. The first is the wine program: the Reston location lists a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 2026 and an OpenTable "Best for Steak" Diners' Choice award for 2025 on its own page. The second is the bar. Morton's runs a "Power Hour" Sunday through Friday from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., which makes a drink at Bar 12-21 an easy first stop even if dinner is somewhere else.

Current hours on the restaurant's page: lunch and dinner Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m.; Monday from 4:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 p.m., with the bar and patio opening first and the full menu at 4:00 p.m. It closes at 9:00 p.m. most nights and 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The sizzling-plate celebration: Ruth's Chris

Ruth's Chris arrived in Reston Town Center in April 2023, as FFXnow reported at the time, in a space of more than 7,400 square feet at 11990 Market Street. The opening announcement described two main dining rooms, a bar and a bar-lounge, a patio and two private dining rooms. The brand's signature is the steak served on a plate heated to 500 degrees, so it is still sizzling when it reaches the table.

Because it is the newest of the four, the room feels the most contemporary. It is a dinner-only restaurant that opens in the late afternoon, which suits a weeknight date that starts after work. For a birthday or an engagement dinner, ask about the two private rooms when you book rather than on the night.

The theatrical, try-everything night: Fogo de Chão

Fogo de Chão turns dinner into a show. Its Reston restaurant, the company's fifth in the DMV, is built around an open-air churrasco grill where you can watch the gaucho chefs work the fire. Cuts arrive on skewers and are carved at the table, and the pace is yours to set. The restaurant's page also lists dry-aged meat lockers for in-house aging, soaring wine displays, an outdoor patio and a lively indoor bar.

The part most couples miss is upstairs. The Next Level Lounge on the mezzanine serves craft cocktails, South American wines and a premium whiskey and bourbon list, and sells hand-rolled cigars. It works as a nightcap after dinner or as a destination on its own. Fogo is the most social room of the four, so it suits a lively celebration more than a whispered conversation. Parking is self-park in the Reston Town Center garage.

The steak-and-pasta night: Davio's at Reston Station

Davio's is the answer when one of you wants a steak and the other would rather have handmade pasta. The 13,000-square-foot restaurant at Reston Station describes its menu as Northern Italian steaks, veal chops and handmade pasta, served on white tablecloths in front of an open kitchen. It runs lunch, nightly dinner and Sunday brunch, with a patio and a lounge for a drink after work.

It also has the deepest private dining program in Reston. Its own site lists rooms from a twelve-seat table up to a combined room that seats 64 to 80, plus full-restaurant buyouts, and points diners to the garage at 11389 Reston Station Boulevard for three-hour dining and retail parking. The Reston Station directory lists its current weekday bar offer.

How to Order Steak Like You Have Done This Before

A steakhouse menu can feel like a test. It is simpler than it looks.

  • Prime, dry-aged and wet-aged mean different things. "Prime" is the top USDA quality grade, based on marbling. "Aged" describes what happened after slaughter: dry-aging in an open, controlled locker concentrates flavor and adds a nutty edge; wet-aging in a sealed bag keeps the texture softer. Ask the server which cuts on the night's menu are which.
  • Pick the cut for the experience. A filet is the leanest and most tender; a ribeye or strip carries more marbling and more flavor; bone-in versions of either add drama and a little more richness near the bone.
  • Share the sides. Steakhouse sides are built for the table. Two sides between two people is usually right.
  • Pace a churrasco dinner. At Fogo, the table-side service continues until you signal you are done. Start slowly, ask for specific cuts by name, and leave room for the second half of the meal.
  • Let the sommelier earn their keep. Give a budget and a style you like rather than a specific bottle. A good steakhouse list has more value in the middle than at either end.

Reservations, Timing and What to Wear

Book ahead for Friday and Saturday, and further ahead for the weekends between Thanksgiving and New Year's, when steakhouses everywhere fill with company holiday dinners. Weeknights are far easier and often a better date anyway: the rooms are calmer, the service is less rushed and you can linger.

Dress codes vary, and Morton's is the one that actually enforces one. Its published dress code asks for business attire or smart casual and rules out athletic wear, hats and caps, tank tops and ripped or distressed jeans, with entry at the manager's discretion regardless of a reservation. At the other three, smart casual will never be wrong. If you are not sure, dress one notch up; nobody has ever been uncomfortable overdressed at a steakhouse.

A practical timing tip: plan dinner around the early-evening bar offers rather than against them. Morton's Power Hour runs Sunday through Friday from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., Davio's runs a weekday bar offer from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., and Fogo's bar features run Monday through Thursday. A drink at the bar around six and a 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. table is the natural rhythm.

Private Rooms for Proposals, Milestones and Small Celebrations

If the date is really an occasion — a proposal, a big anniversary, a parents' dinner after an engagement — a private or semi-private room changes the evening. Reston has more of them than its size suggests.

  • Davio's publishes seven room configurations on its site, from Table 120 for twelve guests to the Arlington & Berkeley Room for 64 to 80 seated, plus a full buyout.
  • Morton's lists private dining spaces for groups both large and small.
  • Ruth's Chris opened with two private dining rooms.
  • Fogo de Chão handles groups from 15 guests up to a full restaurant buyout, with private and semi-private dining rooms.

For a proposal, call the restaurant directly rather than booking online. Ask for a specific table, tell them the plan, and confirm the timing of dessert.

Before and After Dinner: A Reston Town Center Evening

The Town Center rewards an evening that is more than dinner. A few pieces that fit around a steakhouse reservation:

  • See a show of contemporary art first. Tephra ICA, the contemporary art institution formerly known as the Greater Reston Arts Center, has its gallery at 12001 Market Street. Admission is free, and gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so it suits a Saturday late-afternoon start.
  • Catch a film with dinner built in, or after. LOOK Dine-In Cinemas took over and renovated the Town Center's former Bow Tie cinema. A late screening after an early steak dinner is an easy two-part night.
  • Have a glass of wine somewhere else. Barcelona Wine Bar and Sixty Vines are both a short walk from the steakhouses and both built around wine by the glass.
  • Skate, in season. The Reston Town Center Ice Skating Pavilion reopens on 6 November 2026 and runs through 14 March 2027, weather permitting. A few laps after dinner is the most Reston thing you can do on a cold night.
  • End with a nightcap. Fogo's Next Level Lounge and Morton's Bar 12-21 both work on their own, whichever room you ate in.

The Lake Anne Version of the Same Night

If the Town Center feels too polished, start or finish the evening at Lake Anne Village Center, the original 1960s heart of Reston, where the plaza sits directly on the water. It is a short drive from either steakhouse district and a completely different mood.

  • Café Montmartre, 1625 Washington Plaza, describes itself as a French and Việt bistro. It is closed Monday and Tuesday, open noon to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, and takes reservations by email. It is the non-steakhouse date-night answer at Lake Anne.
  • Lake Anne Coffee House & Wine Bar, 1612 Washington Plaza North, stays open until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, recommends dinner reservations and says it sources meats, vegetables and dairy from local vendors. A glass of wine on the plaza before driving over to dinner is a strong opening move.
  • Walk the plaza at dusk. The water, the fountain and the mid-century buildings are at their best in the last half hour of light.
  • Make it a weekend. The Reston Museum, which runs walking tours of Lake Anne Village Center, holds a self-guided Reston Home Tour on Saturday 17 October 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. — a good daytime half of a date weekend, and a rare chance to see inside Reston homes without an appointment.

When You Want Steak Without the Full Steakhouse

Not every date needs a ninety-minute, three-course steak dinner. Some Reston alternatives that still put a good piece of beef or a celebratory meal on the table:

  • Jackson's Mighty Fine Food & Lucky Lounge, 11927 Democracy Drive, describes itself as a nostalgic nod to the 1940s with a modern take on American comfort food. It has a retro outdoor bar, takes reservations up to a month ahead and stays open until midnight on Friday and Saturday, which makes it the late-table option in the Town Center.
  • PassionFish is Reston's seafood-first fine-dining room, for the partner who would rather have fish.
  • The Melting Pot at 11730 Plaza America Drive turns dinner into a multi-course fondue evening and offers "Lovers' Lane" tables on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Noku Sushi opened at 1800 Reston Row Plaza in February 2026 with Japanese and Korean dishes including Korean barbecue served à la carte rather than all-you-can-eat, according to FFXnow.

What Has Changed on Reston's Date-Night Map

Reston's restaurant scene turns over quickly. If you are working from an older list, a few corrections:

  • Ebbitt House is the big new arrival. The first-ever spinoff of Washington's Old Ebbitt Grill, from Clyde's Restaurant Group, is due to open in October 2026 at 1860 Reston Row Plaza, Reston Station. Its own site describes a 275-seat dining room, two bars, a 125-seat patio with its own outdoor bar, a raw bar, and "a steak and a bottle of wine" among the classics. It was not yet open when this was written, so check before you plan around it (The Burn, September 2026).
  • Mon Ami Gabi is gone. The French bistro, long a Town Center steak-frites date spot, closed at the end of 2023.
  • Matchbox at Reston Station closed at the end of 2025, per FFXnow.
  • True Food Kitchen in the Town Center closed in early October 2026 as part of the chain's Chapter 11 filing, The Burn reported.
  • The former Clyde's of Reston space in the Town Center is now Sixty Vines.

What a Date-Night Map Tells You About Where to Live in Reston

Restaurant lists are not real estate advice, but where you like to spend an evening is a good clue to how you will actually live. Reston gives you three distinct versions of that.

Walk to dinner. The condominiums, apartments and townhomes in and immediately around Reston Town Center are the only places in Reston where three of the four steakhouses on this list are a walk rather than a drive. The usual trade is less private outdoor space in exchange for an evening that never needs a car.

One stop away. The newer buildings around Reston Station and Wiehle-Reston East put Davio's, and soon Ebbitt House, downstairs, with the Town Center one Metro stop away. This is the part of Reston changing fastest, with new offices and residences still arriving.

A short drive, a different pace. Lake Anne, North Point, Hunters Woods and South Lakes are older village-center neighborhoods with more trees, more detached homes and townhouses, and Reston's path network outside the door. Dinner at the Town Center becomes a short drive; daily life is quieter. The Reston Association runs the trails, pools and lakes that most Reston addresses share.

If you are weighing Reston against its neighbor, our guide to date-night steakhouses near Vienna covers the Tysons side of the map. None of those is the right answer for everyone. The useful exercise is to notice which evening you would actually repeat on an ordinary Thursday, then search for homes that make that evening easy. If school assignment is part of the decision, read our data-backed look at Reston schools and confirm any address with the FCPS boundary locator before you rely on it.

Reston Market Snapshot: The Last Twelve Months

If a weekend of dinners turns into a weekend of open houses, here is what closed residential sales in Reston ZIP codes 20190, 20191 and 20194 actually did between 9 September 2025 and 9 September 2026, from Bright MLS.

Read the median first. Half of all Reston homes that sold in that year went under contract within eight days, which makes Reston one of the quickest-moving submarkets in the region. The typical home sold at exactly its asking price, so a buyer should neither count on a discount nor assume every house needs a bidding war.

Then read the mean. Twenty-two days, nearly three times the median, means a long tail of homes that sat. In practice that splits the market in two: well-priced, well-presented homes move inside a week, and homes that miss on price or condition wait. If you see a Reston listing you like on a Friday, it is reasonable to assume it will not still be there the following weekend.

How We Help You Choose the Right Part of Reston

An eight-day market rewards buyers who have already decided which version of Reston they want before the right house appears. That is where local knowledge earns its keep: knowing which buildings put you a five-minute walk from Market Street, which streets near Lake Anne back onto the water, and how the Reston Station area is likely to change as new offices and residences open.

Browse what is available now on our Reston home search, read the wider overview on our Reston neighborhood page, or see what is open this weekend. If you own a home elsewhere and are thinking about the move, start with a current home valuation.
