Top Bars in Reston, VA for a Night Out

Bar interior with a polished counter, leather stools, beer taps, and warm pendant lights.

Quick Answer: Reston's Bars, Sorted by the Kind of Night You Want

Reston does not have one bar street. It has three bar clusters that sit a few minutes apart and behave very differently: the dense, garage-parked blocks of Reston Town Center, the newer towers around Reston Station by the Wiehle-Reston East Metro, and the mid-century waterfront at Lake Anne. Add the edge of Herndon, a five-minute drive west, and you have the full map.

The fastest way to choose is by type. Here is the short version, with every venue checked as trading in October 2026:

Live music and cocktail-first bars are a different evening, and we cover them in a separate guide. This one is about the bar itself: the taps, the screens, the wine list, the patio and the price of the first round.

How Reston's Bar Map Actually Works

Reston was planned around village centers rather than a main street, and its bars followed that plan. That matters more than any individual recommendation, because it decides whether a night out is a walk, a short drive or a Metro ride.

Reston Town Center is the densest cluster. Most of the bars in this guide sit within a few blocks of the Pavilion and Fountain Square, and the garages are free in the evenings, so a bar crawl here is genuinely walkable once you have parked. The newer section towards Sunset Hills Road, known as RTC Next, has added a rooftop bar and several new restaurants in the past two years.

Reston Station, around the Wiehle-Reston East Metro, is the high-rise cluster: hotel bars, a fitness club with a lobby bar and a penthouse pool, and a handful of restaurants on the plaza. It is quieter than the Town Center, and it lost one of its restaurant-bars at the end of 2025 (more on that below).

Lake Anne is Reston's original village center, finished in the 1960s, and still the most distinctive place in the community to have a drink. The plaza faces the water, the buildings are low and modernist, and two of its bars put you outdoors by the lake.

Herndon is technically a separate town, but for anyone living in north or west Reston its historic downtown and Centreville Road strip are closer than the Town Center. Two of the pubs Reston residents lean on sit there.

Sports Bars: Where Reston Watches the Game

Reston's sports-bar scene is smaller than its population would suggest, and it lost a game-day option at the end of 2025. The three below cover very different moods.

Kalypso's Sports Tavern, Lake Anne

Kalypso's Sports Tavern sits at 1617 Washington Plaza North on the Lake Anne waterfront, which gives it something no Town Center sports bar has: a lake view. The kitchen is Greek and Italian rather than standard wings-and-burgers, the bar publishes a game-day menu, and there is a lakefront patio for the warmer months. Its own listing describes thirty large HD screens.

The detail that matters most: Kalypso's is open later than almost anything else in Reston. Its website lists 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Crafthouse, Reston Town Center

Crafthouse at 1888 Explorer Street is the Town Center's dedicated sports bar and a serious beer bar at the same time. The Northern Virginia group behind it keeps 50 craft beers on tap and more than 250 bottles and cans at each location, with local spirits alongside. Hours run to midnight Monday through Thursday, to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and to 10 p.m. on Sunday, and the kitchen closes an hour before the bar does. Its weekday happy hour runs 3 to 6 p.m.

Glory Days Grill, North Point

Glory Days Grill at 1400 North Point Village Center is the family-friendly option in north Reston: wings in four styles, burgers, a sports-house layout and a long list of local school and youth-league sponsorships, including South Lakes High School and Reston/Herndon Little League. If your evening involves children in team jerseys, this is the one.

Closed: Matchbox at Reston Station

Older guides list Matchbox at Reston Station as a game-watch bar. It closed permanently at the end of 2025, after opening in 2021 at 1900 Reston Metro Plaza. If a list still sends you there, the list is out of date.

Breweries and Taprooms

Reston has one brewery inside its boundary and a new one just over the line. Both are small, both are owner-run, and neither behaves like a big-box beer hall.

Lake Anne Brew House

Lake Anne Brew House is a nano-brewery run by husband-and-wife owners Jason and Melissa Romano, brewing small batches on the Lake Anne plaza and serving them in a mid-century modern taproom and on a deck overlooking the lake. Its current published hours are Wednesday through Friday 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 7 p.m. The food menu is pretzels, snacks, charcuterie and locally made wood-fired pizza, and outside food is not permitted.

Two practical notes from the brewery itself. First, set your GPS to 11401 North Shore Drive for the commercial lot, not to the mailing address, because the residential lots around the plaza enforce towing. Second, children are welcome and well-behaved dogs are welcome on the outside brick patio. The brewery has also leased the storefront next door and is waiting on a final county permit to combine the two into a larger taproom.

Hawkley Brewing, Herndon

Hawkley Brewing opened in 2026 at 257 Sunset Park Drive in Herndon, an office-park building a few minutes from the Reston boundary. The grand opening was 20 March, with ten beers on at launch. It runs Geeks Who Drink trivia on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. and books occasional live sets on weekends. If you want a taproom that feels like a local's secret rather than a destination, this is the newest candidate.

Coming, not yet open: Dogfish Head Alehouse

A new Dogfish Head Alehouse has been announced for 11995 Inspiration Street at Reston Town Center. In June the owner told FFXnow it was likely to open in the fall, having missed its original summer target. Check that it has actually opened before you plan around it.

Wine Bars

The Town Center holds Reston's two serious wine rooms, a block apart. They are different enough that most people who like one end up using both.

Sixty Vines

Sixty Vines at 11905 Market Street pours 60 wines on tap, by the flight, half glass, glass or bottle, in a large communal room beside the Pavilion. It opened in 2023 in the space that Clyde's of Reston held for 31 years; Clyde's closed in May 2022, so any guide still sending you to Clyde's at the Town Center is badly out of date. Sixty Vines publishes a weekday happy hour, Monday to Friday 3 to 6 p.m. in the bar and lounge, with reductions on select five-ounce wine pours, specialty cocktails and shared plates.

Barcelona Reston

Barcelona Reston at 12023 Town Square Street is the Spanish-leaning alternative: an extensive wine list with a Spanish accent, tapas and wood-grilled plates, and a louder, more social room. The kitchen is led by executive chef Cesar Mayorga, whose background runs through kitchens in Spain, Belgium and Latin America. It is the better choice for a group that wants to graze; Sixty Vines is the better choice for comparing pours side by side.

Pubs and Neighborhood Taverns

For a pint-and-a-plate pub with real history, the honest answer is to drive five minutes west. Both of these sit in Herndon and draw heavily from north and west Reston.

Jimmy's Old Town Tavern

Jimmy's Old Town Tavern at 697 Spring Street has been in downtown Herndon for 29 years, in a building at the corner of Elden and Spring that belongs to the town's historic district. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., keeps an outdoor beer garden open all year and welcomes friendly dogs. For an unpretentious late night close to Reston, it is the default.

Ned Devine's Irish Gastro Pub

Ned Devine's at 2445 Centreville Road is an Irish-owned pub with a full Irish and American menu and a strong sports following. It sits on the Centreville Road corridor just west of Reston, which makes it a short drive for anyone living in the western half of the community.

Rooftops, Patios and Drinks With a View

Reston has very few rooftop bars, which makes the ones it has worth knowing.

Syn Rooftop Lounge & Bar

Syn occupies the 16th floor at 1975 Opportunity Way in the RTC Next section of the Town Center, and local coverage has called it Reston's first rooftop bar. The kitchen is led by chef Alexis Hernandez, who grew up in Lima and trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Peru, and the menu is small plates built for sharing. It is set up as an all-season lounge, so it stays useful in October and November, when patios elsewhere empty out.

Penthouse Pool and Lounge

At Reston Station, the Penthouse Pool and Lounge sits on the 14th floor of VIDA Fitness. It is for members and their guests rather than walk-ins, with loungers and daybeds booked through the VIDA app, and because it is built around the pool it is at its best in summer. The lobby-level Bar VIDA is a daytime bar and café.

Jackson's outdoor bar

Jackson's Mighty Fine Food & Lucky Lounge at 11927 Democracy Drive is a Town Center fixture from the Great American Restaurants group, with a retro outdoor bar that fills on warm evenings. It is open to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and its parking policy is generous: guests park free, and on nights and weekends there is nothing to do.

The Lake Anne waterfront

Between Kalypso's lakefront patio and the Brew House deck, Lake Anne is the closest thing Reston has to a waterside bar strip. On a clear evening the light on the water does more for the drink than any rooftop.

Happy Hours, Only Where the Bar Publishes Them

We list a happy hour here only where the venue states it on its own website. Specials change, so read this as a starting point and confirm on the day.

Bar

Published happy hour

Worth knowing

Open Road Reston, 1871 Fountain Drive

Monday–Friday, 3–6 p.m.

Pint prices step up each hour from 3 p.m., so the earlier you arrive the cheaper the round. Daily specials from 3 p.m. to close add an oyster night on Tuesdays and a wine night on Wednesdays.

Sixty Vines, 11905 Market Street

Monday–Friday, 3–6 p.m.

Bar and lounge only. Discounts on select wine pours, specialty cocktails and shared plates.

Crafthouse, 1888 Explorer Street

Monday–Friday, 3–6 p.m.

We could not confirm a current happy-hour schedule on the websites of Kalypso's, Glory Days, Barcelona or the Herndon pubs, so ask when you arrive rather than assuming one.

Which Reston Bars Stay Open Latest

Reston is not a late-night town, and most bars wind down between 10 p.m. and midnight. If the evening runs long, these are the ones that still have the lights on, according to their own published hours:

  • Kalypso's Sports Tavern — to 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. A rare 1 a.m. weeknight close for Reston.
  • Crafthouse — to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, midnight on other weeknights.
  • Jimmy's Old Town Tavern — to 2 a.m. every day, in Herndon.
  • Jackson's — to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Kitchens close earlier than bars almost everywhere on this list. Crafthouse, for example, stops food an hour before closing.

Getting There and Getting Home

Reston is unusually well set up for a night out without a car, as long as you plan the last leg. The Silver Line serves two stations here: Wiehle-Reston East, a short walk from the Reston Station bars, and Reston Town Center, which sits on the Dulles Toll Road at Reston Parkway, a longer walk from the Town Center's bars. The Town Center's free linkRTC shuttle runs only on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., so it will not help you home after dark. Check WMATA's current closing times before you rely on a late train.

If you drive, the Town Center's garages are the easy answer: they are free from 5 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. on weekdays and all day at weekends, while street meters on Market Street still charge. Lake Anne is a park-once destination, but use the commercial lot, not the residential ones. North Point and the Herndon pubs have surface lots. For anything involving more than one round, rideshare is quick across Reston's short distances.

Which Part of Reston Fits the Way You Go Out

For anyone moving here, the bar map doubles as a neighborhood map. Each cluster corresponds to a genuinely different kind of address.

  • Reston Town Center is mostly condominium and apartment towers and newer townhomes, with the densest walk-to-everything lifestyle in the community. If you want to leave the car at home on a Friday, this is the area.
  • Reston Station and Wiehle Avenue trade some of that density for direct Metro access. The bar choice is thinner, but the commute is the best in Reston.
  • Lake Anne pairs mid-century townhouses and condominiums with the most characterful evening setting in Reston: a brewery, a sports tavern and a waterfront plaza within a few hundred feet of each other.
  • North Reston (20194), around North Point Village Center, is a family-oriented area with a sports bar in the village center and quick access to Herndon's pubs.
  • South Reston, around Hunters Woods and South Lakes, is the quietest for evenings out and the most trail-and-lake oriented, with the Town Center a short drive north.

If schools are part of the equation, start with our data-backed look at Reston's schools and then confirm any specific address with the FCPS boundary locator. Boundaries change, and the locator is the only authoritative source. Our Reston neighborhood page covers the wider community.

Reston Market Snapshot: What the Last 12 Months Show

If you are deciding which of those areas to buy in, it helps to know how quickly Reston moves. The figures below are Bright MLS closed residential sales in ZIP codes 20190, 20191 and 20194, from 9 September 2025 to 9 September 2026.

A median of eight days puts Reston among the faster submarkets in the DMV. The gap between the median and the mean tells you the rest: well-priced homes go within days, while a tail of homes sits longer and pulls the average up. A median close-to-list of exactly 100.0% means the typical home sells at its asking price, so buyers should plan neither on a discount nor on a bidding war by default.

In practice, that means doing your neighborhood homework early. Spend an evening in the Town Center, a Saturday at Lake Anne and a weeknight in North Point before you start touring houses, so you already know which part of Reston you want when the right listing appears.

How We Help You Choose a Reston Address

A bar list is a small thing, but it is a useful way to start a bigger conversation: how do you actually want to spend your evenings, and which part of Reston supports that? We know the difference between a Town Center tower, a Lake Anne townhouse and a North Point single-family street, and what each one means for a Friday night, a school run and a Metro commute.

Does Reston have any rooftop bars?

Yes, but only a few. Syn Rooftop Lounge & Bar at 1975 Opportunity Way is open to the public and set up for all seasons. The Penthouse Pool and Lounge at VIDA Fitness Reston Station is a members-and-guests summer space rather than a public bar.

Which Reston bars are open latest?

Based on their own published hours, Kalypso's Sports Tavern runs to 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and Crafthouse runs to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. In Herndon, Jimmy's Old Town Tavern is open to 2 a.m. every day.

Is Matchbox at Reston Station still open?

No. Matchbox closed permanently at the end of 2025. Clyde's of Reston at the Town Center also closed, in May 2022; Sixty Vines now occupies that space.

Are there breweries in Reston?

Lake Anne Brew House is the brewery inside Reston, on the Lake Anne plaza. Hawkley Brewing opened in 2026 in Herndon, a few minutes away. A Dogfish Head Alehouse has been announced for Reston Town Center; confirm it has opened before you go.

Where should I park for a night out at Reston Town Center?

Use the Town Center garages, which Reston Town Center lists as free from 5 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. Street meters on Market Street charge, except on Sundays. At Lake Anne, use the commercial lot at 11401 North Shore Drive, because the residential lots enforce towing.

Which part of Reston is best if I want to walk to bars?

Reston Town Center has the most bars within walking distance of home, followed by Lake Anne for a smaller, waterfront version. Reston Station adds Metro access. Visit each one on an evening before you choose where to buy.
