Shirlington, Arlington VA

Shirlington is an urban village in the southern part of Arlington County, Virginia. The neighborhood is named for its proximity to both Arlington and the Shirley Highway, also known as Interstate 395.

Shirlington is a hotbed for arts and entertainment development within the Arlington area, being home to a Tony Award-winning theatre and several nationally-broadcast media groups.

As an urban village, there is no hard line between residential and commercial buildings in Shirlington, so buyers can expect to find both single-family homes and condominiums in the area.

Shirlington sits immediately next to the Shirley highway, giving residents easy access to the interstate system. Though the community does not have a metro stop within walking distance, the Shirlington Bus Station — the only enclosed bus station in Arlington — is accessed by both the Arlington Transit and Metrobus services.

When it comes to schooling options, Shirlington has several accessible institutes. These include Arlington Traditional Elementary School, Gunston Middle School, and Wakefield High School.
