Most “best gyms” lists give you twelve names and no way to choose between them. This one does the opposite. It picks three fitness studios in and around Vienna, Virginia, that each win a different kind of week — the before-work routine, the do-everything membership, and the small, precise studio — and explains who each one actually suits, how the classes run and what it takes to try them.
It finishes with the part of Vienna's fitness scene that costs nothing: a 45-mile paved trail through the middle of town, wooded parks and a national park's trail system on the north side. Every studio and park here was checked in October 2026.
The three picks at a glance
Studio | Where | Format | Wins for | How to try it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
127 Maple Avenue West, in the town centre | Coached, heart-rate-based interval classes | A dependable routine close to home | First class free | |
1500 Cornerside Blvd, Tysons West (Vienna 22182) | Five boutique studios plus a full gym, pool and recovery | One membership for every kind of workout | Free pass from the club page | |
9425 Talisman Dr, Vienna 22182 | Classical Pilates on the full apparatus: private, duet and small group | Form, core strength and coming back from injury | Introductory three-session pack |
How these three were chosen
The test was not which studio is “best” — there is no honest way to rank a Pilates studio against a club of nearly 49,000 square feet. It was whether each studio is the clear answer to a specific question a Vienna household asks, and whether the three together cover the ground without overlapping.
- Different formats. One coached interval class, one multi-studio club, one apparatus-based Pilates studio. If you want more than one, they combine; they do not compete.
- Published detail. Each publishes its format, schedule or pricing clearly enough that you can plan around it before you walk in.
- Trading today. All three were confirmed open and taking bookings in October 2026, from their own sites and current listings.
If you are looking for CrossFit, one-on-one personal training or a budget gym instead, those are different decisions with different answers, and this list deliberately leaves them out.
Orangetheory Fitness Vienna: the routine you will actually keep
Why it wins
Orangetheory Fitness Vienna is the only one of the three inside the town itself, at 127 Maple Avenue West, a short walk from the Vienna Town Green and the Church Street blocks. For most people the hardest part of a fitness routine is not the workout but getting there four times a week, and a studio on Maple Avenue removes most of the friction. It is open seven days a week, so a missed weekday can be made up on Saturday.
The format
Every class is coached and built on heart-rate zones: members wear a monitor and the coach runs intervals across cardio machines and the weight floor, with your effort shown in real time. Classes are booked through an app, so you know you have a spot before you leave the house. The studio also runs HYROX classes — coach-led sessions programmed around the eight movements of the indoor fitness race — for anyone who wants a goal on the calendar. First-timers are asked to arrive 30 minutes early for a studio introduction.
What it costs
The studio page lists unlimited month-to-month membership at $169 a month, with lower monthly rates for six- and twelve-month commitments and a cheaper limited tier. Promotional first-month pricing appears from time to time. A membership also comes with access to Orangetheory's roughly 1,300 studios nationwide, which matters more than it sounds for anyone who travels for work.
Who it suits
Busy professionals and parents who want a structured hour with no planning required, people new to group fitness who prefer a coach telling them what to do next, and frequent travellers who want the same workout in another city. It is less suited to anyone chasing heavy strength numbers or a specific skill.
Club Studio: the whole menu in one membership
Why it wins
Club Studio opened in July 2024 after an $11 million retrofit of the former 24 Hour Fitness at Tysons West, according to FFXnow. It sits on the third floor of the Walmart building in the Tysons West development at 1500 Cornerside Boulevard, which carries a Vienna 22182 mailing address, a short walk from the Spring Hill Metro station on the Silver Line. Its argument is simple: rather than paying three boutique studios, you pay one club that houses all of them.
The format
The opening announcement lists five studio rooms:
- Strength — a HIIT-style class called CS4 using treadmills, rowers and ski-ergs alongside functional strength equipment.
- Box — nine rounds of boxing combinations and athletic drills.
- Ride — rhythm-based indoor cycling with a weights sequence.
- Hot Yoga — heated flow classes in a dedicated studio.
- Pilates — reformer-based classes.
Around them sit free weights, cardio and functional training areas, an HWPO (“Hard Work Pays Off”) training room with turf for performance work, a recovery area with cryotherapy and compression tools, an indoor pool, sauna and whirlpool, towel service and a Kalologie medical spa. Current listed hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at weekends.
What it costs
Club Studio sells a premium membership. Its own site notes that personal training and recovery services carry an additional charge, and it offers a free pass to try the club. Ask for current rates on the visit; they are not posted on the club page.
Who it suits
Households where two people want completely different workouts, anyone who wants a pool and recovery in the same building as their classes, and people working in Tysons who can train at lunch. The trade-off is scale: with five studios and a big gym floor, it feels like a club rather than a community studio, and the weekend hours are shorter than many expect.
Powercore Pilates: the precision pick
Why it wins
Powercore Pilates is a small classical Pilates studio at 9425 Talisman Drive in the 22182 part of Vienna, run by its founder, Francesca Gorgone. Her studio biography describes her as a certified Pilates instructor and NASM-certified personal trainer with more than 18 years of fitness and Pilates experience, and she is listed as a Power Pilates teacher trainer. In a format where the quality of the cueing is the whole product, being taught by the person who trains other instructors is the reason to choose it.
The format
This is apparatus Pilates, not a mat class in a gym. Private sessions use the full equipment set — Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barrels and Mat — and the studio also offers duets, trios, small-group classes, personal training and online sessions. All classes run 55 minutes. The current small-group apparatus schedule on the studio site is:
- Tuesday 3 p.m.
- Wednesday 11 a.m.
- Thursday 8 a.m.
- Friday 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
There is also a Pure Strength group class that uses weights, bands and core intervals built on Pilates principles. Note the daytime-heavy schedule: it works best for hybrid workers and anyone with a flexible midday.
What it costs
New clients start with a three-session introductory apparatus pack at $270, listed on the services page. Cancellations must be made by 5 p.m. the night before or the class is charged, and packages are non-refundable — read the policy before you buy.
Who it suits
Anyone working on posture, core strength or a return from injury; runners and lifters who want better movement quality; and people who have tried big-room reformer classes and want to be corrected properly. It is not the choice for a high-energy, music-driven workout.
Which one fits your week
If your week looks like this | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
Early Orange Line commute from the Vienna Metro, home for dinner | Orangetheory Vienna | In town, open seven days, classes booked ahead |
Office in Tysons, workout at lunch | Club Studio | Next to Spring Hill Metro, five class formats under one roof |
Hybrid schedule with free mornings or middays | Powercore Pilates | Daytime small-group apparatus classes, private sessions on request |
Two adults who want different things | Club Studio | One club covers boxing, cycling, yoga, Pilates and lifting |
Recovering from an injury or working on posture | Powercore Pilates | One-on-one apparatus work with an experienced teacher trainer |
Frequent work travel | Orangetheory Vienna | The same class format at studios across the country |
How to try each one before you commit
All three have a low-cost way in, and it is worth using it properly rather than just booking the most convenient slot.
- Go at the time you would really go. A 6 a.m. class and a 6 p.m. class at the same studio are different experiences, with different coaches, crowds and parking.
- Drive or walk the real route. From a house you are considering, time the trip on a weekday. Maple Avenue at rush hour and the Tysons West garage at noon are both worth seeing once.
- Ask about pauses and cancellations. Orangetheory publishes commitment tiers, Powercore publishes a strict 5 p.m. cancellation rule, and Club Studio charges separately for some services. Know the terms before a relocation year throws your schedule around.
- Watch the coaching, not the decor. In all three, the instructor is the product. If nobody corrected your form in the first session, that tells you something.
The free options: trail, parks and woods
Vienna's best fitness amenity charges no membership. If you are choosing a house partly on lifestyle, these matter as much as any studio.
The W&OD Trail. The Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park is a paved trail running 45 miles from Shirlington to Purcellville along an old railroad bed, and it passes straight through the middle of Vienna by the Town Green and the community centre. NOVA Parks opens it from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, year-round, and counts more than two million users a year. For runners and cyclists it is the reason to live within a few blocks of it.
Northside Park and the Maud Robinson Wildlife Preserve. The Town of Vienna's Northside Park covers 26 acres criss-crossed with hiking paths of varying difficulty — a favourite of joggers and dog walkers north of Maple Avenue.
Glyndon Park. An 11-acre wooded park reached from Glyndon Street and Beulah Road NE, listed among the town's parks and trails; quieter than the W&OD for a walk or an easy run.
Nottoway Park. Fairfax County's Nottoway Park at 9537 Courthouse Road has tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, a fitness trail and a wooded nature path — the closest thing to an outdoor gym on the south side of town.
The Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail. The county's 41.5-mile Cross County Trail links Great Falls to Lorton, and a short stretch of it shares the W&OD through Vienna before heading north along the Difficult Run stream valley. It is the long, largely unpaved option for trail runners and mountain bikers.
Wolf Trap. Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts is best known for concerts, but its trail brochure describes more than two miles of trails through 65 acres of forest, including the Wolf Trap Trail loop along the creek, which the park puts at about 2.5 miles.
How your address changes the answer
The three studios sit in two clusters — the Maple Avenue core and the Tysons side of 22182 — and the free options are spread across town. Where you buy decides which of them become habits.
- Town centre, Windover Heights and the Church Street blocks — Orangetheory and the W&OD Trail are both within walking distance, and the Vienna Town Green is the natural meeting point. The strongest position if you want to leave the car at home.
- Westbriar, Tysons West and the Route 7 corridor — Club Studio and Powercore are minutes away, Spring Hill Metro is close, and the Tysons job base is on the doorstep.
- The Wolf Trap side, including neighbourhoods such as Shouse Village — Powercore and Club Studio are a short drive, and Wolf Trap's trails and the Difficult Run stretch of the Cross County Trail are closer still.
- Near Nutley Street and the Vienna Metro — Orangetheory is an easy stop on the way home from the Orange Line, with Nottoway Park on the same side of town.
Schools rarely line up with any of this. Vienna addresses can feed Madison High School or Oakton High School, through Thoreau Middle or Kilmer Middle and elementary schools including Louise Archer, Marshall Road, Vienna Elementary, Westbriar and Wolftrap — but Fairfax County Public Schools boundaries change, and they do not follow neighbourhood names. Check any specific address on the FCPS Boundary Locator before relying on it. For the same question one town over, see our guide to where to work out in McLean.
Vienna market snapshot
Bright MLS closed residential sales in Vienna ZIP codes 22180, 22181 and 22182, for the twelve months to 9 September 2026.
Metric | Vienna, VA (22180 / 22181 / 22182) |
|---|---|
Closed sales in the period | 757 |
Median days on market | 7 |
Average days on market | 23.9 |
Median sale-to-list price | 100.0% |
Average sale-to-list price | 101.0% |
The gap between a seven-day median and a twenty-four-day average is the useful part: well-placed homes go quickly, and the rest take longer and negotiate. For buyers, the side of town that fits your routine is worth settling before the right listing appears, because there is often not much time once it does.
